Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Bridges to a New Day Counseling Services

The featured speaker at the Zonta Club of the Joliet Area's October 11 meeting was Carolyn Kahn, Executive Director of Bridges to a New Day, nfp, which offers counseling service to domestic violence survivors. Ms. Kahn is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and a certified domestic violence professional (CDVP). She has worked in the social service field for over 20 years and is a founding member of the organization, where she volunteers as Executive Director.

Ms. Kahn shared with our club how this organization, located in Romeoville, IL in Will County, was formed in 2004 to fill in missing gaps in the community mental health system with a focus on preventing long term mental health issues. Its mission is to provide prevention, intervention and educational services which foster non-violence in the lives of children and adults.

Bridges to a New Day, nfp has been the recipient of several small grants from our club to help fund this sorely needed agency in Will County.

We thank Carolyn and her staff of dedicated counselors for this invaluable work.
